Card Committee
The aim of the Card Committee is to define industry and technology neutral specifications for card and application management on a dynamic single or multi application smart card from multiple service providers. The Card Committee is currently chaired by Jean-Loup Dépinay from Oberthur Card Systems.
Committee objectives:
- To develop, maintain and evolve the GlobalPlatform Card Specification and related supporting documents and tools, while retaining backwards compatibility with earlier technology releases.
- To recommend security evaluation processes and security features to ensure that GlobalPlatform cards offer the highest levels of security.
- To define and develop the GlobalPlatform Card Compliance Program, to facilitate interoperability within GlobalPlatform card deployments.
- To reach out to and liaise with other relevant industry and standardization groups and identify new business requirements and opportunities for progressing joint working initiatives.
- To work with the GlobalPlatform Device and Systems Committees, ensuring alignment of card technology within the context of the wider GlobalPlatform technology infrastructure.
Beneficiaries of the committee include:
- Card issuers deploying multi-application smart cards, who wish to manage their own card while defining a policy for hosting application providers and proposing value-added services.
- Application providers who want to deploy applications on an existing infrastructure.
- Card manufacturers who deliver products based on the GlobalPlatform Specifications.
2008 activities and priorities:
- To update, clarify and extend Card Specification v2.2. Work will focus on clarifying the security domains hierarchy, incorporating a new Application Programming Interface (API) as defined by the Confidential Card Content Management Amendment, progressing a UICC Configuration and incorporating Smart Card Platform (SCP) 03 - an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) based secure channel protocol.
- To define a card compliance program for Card Specification v2.2, including the UICC Configuration.
- To progress work towards the development of GlobalPlatform Card Specification v3.0. This new version of the specification will be compatible with the Java Card v3.0 specification.
Card Committee Working Groups:
